ZenMate VPN

ZenMate is a VPN service that became known for its convenient browser extensions. While many VPN services exist only as separate standalone applications, ZenMate started as an extension that integrates into the browser and encrypts the browser's traffic. The extension is easy to add to Google Chrome, and as a Chrome Web Store extension it can also be added to Chromium-based browsers such as SRWare Iron. As a VPN service, ZenMate passes traffic through its servers, encrypting it and hiding the user's IP address. It also helps protect information on public Wi-Fi networks and lets users appear to be in another country to reach geo-restricted content.

The product is characterized by a convenient interface and ease of use: the extension turns protection on and off with one click and lets you pick a server location. Besides the extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Edge, ZenMate offered VPN apps for Windows, macOS, iOS and Android; the free extension had a limited choice of locations, while paid plans covered all locations and devices. ZenMate was developed by ZenGuard in Berlin and later became part of Kape Technologies, the owner of CyberGhost. In March 2023 the service joined CyberGhost VPN: the ZenMate apps were supported only until May 1, 2023, paid subscribers moved to the CyberGhost apps, and the free browser extension kept standard locations only.
